Lawrence was born in Waukesha,
Wisconsin on December 26th 1958 and grew up on the west
side of Madison, Wisconsin. He began drawing Dr. Seuss characters at
the age of 7. In high school Lawrence became an All American
swimmer and painted for the first time, but enlisted in the Armed
Forces on July 7,1977 . There he won many National titles in the All
Military Triathlon. When Lawrence was honorably discharged in 1980,
he began a four-year study of art at the University of Wisconsin,
Madison where he created two art styles in college. The first was a
realistic drawing style using ballet as a theme, and the second
being a color pencil wildlife style.
Lawrence was inspired to see the
world. He wanted to learn as much about art as he could through
seeing a world of art. His passion took him on an adventure to
Europe. Backpacking from England to Greece he saw as many museums
and galleries as he could. His understanding and confidence of art
grew realizing his dream would be a reality. Lawrence had his
first art show at the Regional Art Center in Wisconsin in 1985.
In 1987 Lawrence moved to
California, the land of opportunity. In 1989 Lawrence became a
graphic artist for the Pacific Bell yellow pages where he worked for
11 years. In the mean time, his drawing portfolio was accepted at
Disney. Shortly after that he was laid off from Pacific Bell and
became a pre-press art manager for Mail-well Envelope. After a year
he was laid off and became a Christian Angel artist in 2001.
Currently Lawrence works for
Vantage Foundation, which is a foundation dedicated to enriching the
lives of the handicapped. He continues his passion for painting in
the evenings and weekends and has many shows for church services and
church events throughout Orange County, California.
